WILL-TV’S
GOLD STAR MOTHERS DOCUMENTARY
WINS THREE EMMY NOMINATIONS
The WILL-TV documentary, Gold Star Mothers: Pilgrimage of
Remembrance, has been nominated for three regional 2004 Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-America Chapter.
Produced by WILL-TV’s Alison Davis Wood, the documentary won nominations in three categories: best documentary, writing for a program and art direction for a program. The documentary told the story of emotional journeys American Gold Star Mothers took to Europe after World War I to see their sons’ graves. The program first aired on WILL-TV in May 2003, and was broadcast on more than 200 public television stations around the country in 2004.
Nominated for their work on
Gold Star Mothers along with Wood in the best documentary category were WILL-TV’s Tim Hartin, the program’s director of photography; co-producer John Graham, who works for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County; and Henry Szujewski, WILL-TV’s executive producer. WILL-TV graphic designer Don Chambers was nominated with Wood and Hartin in the art direction/design category. Wood was nominated for writing.
“Alison and her co-workers were very dedicated to bringing this story to public television,” said Szujewski. “ This is a well deserved reward for all the hard work, travel, and research that they did on a very limited budget. It’s excellent storytelling and the three Emmy nominations prove it.”
The Mid-America Emmys will be presented Oct. 16 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in St. Louis.
