“Marion’s Triumph: Surviving History’s Nightmare”
Filmmaker John Chua’s previous documentary, “Whatever! It’s A Wonderful Sorority Life,” was independently produced and acquired by National Asian American Telecommunications Association for national broadcast on PBS in 1999. An ironic look at sorority life, the documentary traces the journey of a black student attempting to join an exclusive white sorority system at the University of Illinois. The film was selected by the Museum of TV and Radio for inclusion in its permanent collection and is available to visitors at both the Museum’s Beverly Hills and New York City locations.
John Chua received his Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Illinois in 2004 and is currently a staff member at the Shoah Foundation, located at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Founded by Steven Spielberg, the Shoah Foundation has collected visual history testimonies from over 50,000 Holocaust survivors and witnesses, and produced 10 documentaries broadcast in 50 countries.
