When WILL Radio begins transmitting a digital signal, you will be able to …

  • Hear a clearer, more reliable sound of music from 90.9;
  • Get AM 580’s news and information 24 hours a day in Mahomet, Monticello, Decatur and even further west.

Digital radio will dramatically improve reception and sound quality. Within WILL-FM’s primary service area the digital signal will be clear and solid. It will not be subject to interference or fading caused by buildings and other radio signals. And the background hiss heard in communities farther away from our Monticello-based transmitter (including Champaign and Urbana) will be gone.

WILL plans to broadcast AM 580’s news and information service on FM’s digital “Secondary Audio Channel” with a coverage area approximately the same as WILL-FM’s -- 24 hours a day! So, even when AM 580 reduces power at night or before sunrise, you will still be able to hear WILL-AM’s programs, loud and clear. Even if you live in southwest Champaign, Monticello, Decatur, and other points west where the AM 580 is not strong, you will be able to hear us.

WILL has already received about half of the funding for this $200,000 project, including a $75,000 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Digital Radio Conversion Fund, and generous gifts from a number of Friends of WILL. With your help we can complete the funding and begin our transition to digital radio this fall, so we can launch our digital signal in early 2008.

When you contribute $500 or more to the WILL Digital Radio Fund, you’ll receive a digital radio … so you’ll be ready to enjoy a crystal clear sound and a news and information service 24 hours a day.

Additional information is also available by calling Danda Beard at WILL, (217) 333-9393 or emailing dtbeard@uiuc.edu.
