History is made from stories and the people who pass them from one generation to the next.  We present these stories gathered by seven young women from Franklin Middle School in Champaign.  They conducted interviews with older local Black residents to find out what it was like during the years before the Brown v. Board decision. They learned how to conduct these interviews by listening closely and asking follow up questions. They learned how to do research, and work the sound, taping and editing equipment. They not only developed a deeper understanding of Brown, but the significance of racism, segregation, the elusive quest for an equitable and excellent education, and what all that means for their lives.
