Individuals and families now face major challenges caring for
elder family members, balancing work, personal issues, and
other life obligations. WILL has engaged in a major
effort to explore the issues facing caregivers, in partnership
with service providers and community organizations. We
received a Governor's Award for Excellence from the Illinois
Department on Aging for this work. We
present here programs and resources to make a difference.
WILL-AM 580 aired Heart to Heart: Caring for the Dying
1 pm Saturday, November 28, 2002
The program raises questions about dying and explores some of
the answers. Program 1: Beyond Pain focuses on making death
less painful, as a large percentage of Americans die today in
severe and unnecessary pain. Program II: Children Sometimes Die examines the
kind of support that families need during this unbelievably
difficult experience. Program III: Respecting Diversity looks at how
the assumptions behind "good end-of-life care" do
not necessarily meet the needs of people who are not white and
middle class.
Beyond Burden: Caregiving as a Basic Human Need, a WILL-TV production that
examined the joy and creativity involved in caring for someone you love
